DO YOU LOVE YOUR BODY? ♥ for BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH, OCTOBER!

We’re in the last week of October and I wanted to “lock” it with the very important topic for all of us girls, young and grown up women (and men in the lower percentage). As someone who has met the breast cancer in the family, I believe in strength, early detection and the importance of loving and caring for your body.

In my life, that was my grandma. Even though I was quite young, maybe 12, I very well remember the story of my grandma saying that she found a lump under her armpit and she went to the doctor. It was a breast cancer. Then it was surgery, chemo, recovery…Then it was 3 years after, 5 years after and now more then 10 years after, it’s gone from the reality, but never from the memory. Breast cancer was the first cancer I ever met in my life.

LOVE YOUR BODY

I believe that this is the most important thing in a life of a woman. Taking care of your body and loving your body goes together, but I see a significant difference here. Everyone can take care of their body without loving it and caring at all, which is what can be seen everyday if you just turn a round a bit. To love your body…it is not easy. It takes time to accept yourself and to start realising that this is you and that your body is something that allows you and enables you so many different things in your life. Loving your body for me is being able to stand in front of the mirror, naked, being comfortable and loving what I see, not only for the appearance, but also for the purpose. It is amazing what body can take and go through, and still recover and fight. Loving your body raises a chance for knowing your body, too. And that is such a huge , life-changing advantage!

Boobs are, together with the body-acceptance and body love, one of those sensitive subject for us girls, especially when we are younger. Or they are too small, or they look “old”, or they are a weird shape, or they are too big and our back hurts…I can write an essay about it and I believe you agree! I also believe that most of us finally accept our boobs sometime in our 20s. I am in that boat too. And all of a sudden, they stop being the sexual object that men dream of and they start being our femininity, that gentle part of our body, a potential food provider for a baby and so much more. Their role is so much bigger than filling up a C or a D cup. I stopped expecting them to grow, or change, or get firmer. I just decided to like and love them, in the end, we are stuck together for until the end! :)

1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. The rate of a survival is 27%  in advanced stage and 98% in early stages. That is why October is the one to raise the awareness and the one to focus on teaching all of us how to build a relationship with out boobs and if needed, protect them on time. So for you and your breasts to live a happy and healthy life, don’t forget to:

1.BREAST SELF EXAMS

Regular self-exams are something that is simply a part of your shower or “check in the mirror” routine. Getting to know your breasts means that you can detect any changes in shape, colour, lumps more successful and on time, if it would ever happen. Those changes need to be reported to your family doctor, without any embarrassment (hey, we all have breasts). Actually, 80% of the lumps are noncancerous but they still need to be checked.

2. ANNUAL EXAMS AND MAMMOGRAMS

Something that we should start doing in our 20s are annual doctor/nurse exams and in our 40s (latest) are mammograms. Very quick and easy examinations, not painful at all and you can be calm if you were ever worried.

Vrlo jednostavni i bezbolni pregledi, a vi ste mirni.

3. HEALTHY WEIGHT

Extra weight means extra risk. Antioxidant-rich food and fibres are a great deal!

Visak kilograma znaci veci rizik. Hrana bogata antioksidansima i vlakna su super rjesenje!

4. ACTIVATE YOURSELF

45 minutes of physical activity every day is what doctors suggest. It can be walking, it can be biking, it can be jogging or the gym – or a combination!

5. REDUCE RISKS

Alcohol intake and smoking raise a risk for not only breast cancer but the whole list of medical issues. That is a proven fact and a decision to make.
